Local customers often check your Google Business Profile before they call. If the name, hours, photos, or services are thin or outdated, the profile looks unfinished, even when the business itself is solid.

This free Google Business Profile Optimization Checklist from LiveFixPro is a practical planning aid. Mark what is already done. Watch the completion percentage and grade update. See Top next steps for unchecked items. Progress saves in this browser only.

This checklist does not promise rankings or results. Completing items does not promise visibility, calls, or bookings.

Why these fifteen items matter

Local searchers and Maps visitors often scan the same basics. Is the name consistent? Are today's hours right? Can they tap a phone number or website? Do the photos look current? Have recent reviews gotten a reply?

The checklist groups that work into Basics, Content, Reviews, and Engagement, so you can finish the foundation before polishing posts. Service-area businesses get a clear reminder to list the cities or regions they actually serve. Storefronts still benefit from accurate holiday hours and a booking or appointment link when that fits how you take work.

None of that is a ranking formula. It is simply the unfinished work many profiles still leave open, gathered on one page.

Two Google changes this checklist reflects

  • Profile chat is gone. Google ended the chat feature in Business Profile on July 31, 2024 (Google Business Profile Help). So instead of "turn on messaging", the checklist asks you to confirm that your phone number, and any text or WhatsApp option your profile offers, reaches someone who replies.

  • Q&A has changed. Google retired the Business Profile Q&A API on November 3, 2025, as it updates how questions and answers work (Google for Developers). The checklist asks you to put clear answers about services, areas, hours, and booking where you control the words: your description, your services list, and your website FAQ.

Asking for reviews the right way

Ask every customer after a completed job, not just the ones you expect to be happy, and don't offer anything in return for a review. Reply to every review, positive or negative, in a calm, specific way.

How the score works

As you check items, the tool shows:

  • A percent complete and progress bar

  • A grade: Needs work (under 50%), Getting there (50–79%), or Strong (80%+)

  • A Top next steps list of the first unchecked items, or a reminder to re-check when details change if everything is marked

Use Reset checklist to clear saved progress in this browser.
