Website Requirements Checklist for Home Services (Free)
Use this website requirements checklist to decide the pages, features and content a new or redesigned site needs, then copy a brief for your developer.
What the checklist asks for
• Business name and type of project: a new website, a redesign of your current website, or adding pages or features to your current site.
• Services to feature, one per line.
• Towns or areas served, one per line (optional).
• What a visitor should do on the site. Your main goal, such as call, request service or book.
• The checklist itself, in four groups. Mark each item Must have, Nice to have or Skip.
The four groups
Pages. Home, service pages (one per service), service area pages, about, contact, reviews or testimonials, photo gallery, FAQ, blog or news, and offers or financing information.
Features. A click-to-call button on mobile, a request or quote form, online booking, a chat assistant, a map and directions, license and insurance details, reviews shown on service pages, links to social profiles and an email sign-up.
Content you will supply. Logo files, photos of your own work and team, service descriptions, a list of areas served, common questions and answers, and business hours and contact details.
Access and setup. Domain access, hosting or site-builder account access, analytics, form notifications that go to an inbox someone checks, a privacy page and a link to your business profile.
What you get back
A website requirements brief with your main goal, the services to feature, the areas served, a Must have list and a Nice to have list, each item with a tick box. Copy it, download it as a .txt file or print it. The brief ends with a reminder not to send logins or passwords by email.
Using the brief well
• Be honest about must-haves. If everything is a must-have, nothing is. Start with what a visitor needs to contact you.
• Do the content items yourself early. Photos, service descriptions and a list of areas are often what slow a project down.
• Name who holds access. Domain and hosting logins are easy to lose track of. Decide who has them before work starts.
• Share the brief, not your passwords. Give access through your host's or platform's own secure method.
What this tool is not
It's a planning checklist. It doesn't look at your current website, so it isn't an audit, and it lists what to decide, not what will work in your market. Review the brief before you share it.

FAQ
What should a website requirements checklist include?
The pages you need, the features such as click-to-call and request forms, the content you must supply, and who has access to the domain and hosting. This checklist covers each and lets you mark them must-have, nice-to-have or skip.
Is this the same as a website audit?
No. It doesn't look at your current site. It helps you write down what a new or updated site needs.
Who is the brief for?
You can hand it to a developer, a web designer or an agency, or use it yourself to compare quotes on the same list.
Should I put my logins in the brief?
No. Never include logins or passwords. Share access through your host's or platform's own secure method.
Does the checklist keep what I tick?
No. It runs in your browser, so your choices aren't uploaded or stored. Copy or download the brief before you close the page.

A website requirements checklist helps you decide what your new or redesigned site needs before you talk to a developer. Without one, the conversation starts with "what do you want?" and ends with a quote for something you didn't mean to ask for.
