Google Ads Character Counter and Ad Preview
Check Google Ads headline and description character counts and see a mock phone and computer preview. Free, runs in your browser.
Google Ads responsive search ads have strict length limits, and text over a limit can’t be used as written. This free tool counts characters as you type your headlines and descriptions and compares them with the limits it uses: headline 30, description 90, path 15, sitelink text 25, sitelink description 35 and callout 25. It also shows a mock phone or computer preview of how your lines could read together.
It is for business owners and marketers drafting search ads who want to check lengths before they paste into the ad platform. It flags common issues such as over-limit text, duplicate lines and wording that ad review often questions. These are heads-up hints, not approval decisions.
You can copy your lines, export them as a CSV, or download a preview image to share with your team. The preview is labelled “Mock preview, not an actual Google ad.” Google decides what actually shows, and the limits come from Google Ads Help and can change, so confirm them in your account.
